In a shocking incident of trafficking of foreign currency, around Rs 39 Lakhs of foreign currency has been seized by the Air Intelligence Unit of Goa Customs at the Dabolim Airport. The unit intercepted two international passengers, natives of Kasargod, Kerala, at the departure hall with foreign currency worth Rs39 lakh.
The accused had concealed the said amount between the inner and outer layers of their backpacks. The currency has been seized under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962. The seizure was made by the air intelligence team of Goa Customs under the supervision of additional commissioner of customs G B Santimano, and under the guidance commissioner of customs R Manohar.
In the past three months, the custom officers have booked four cases of gold smuggling (4.6kg) valued at Rs1.42 crore and also seized 5kg of ganja.
