Mandovi bridge: 100% ‘Make in India’ project to be inaugurated soon

Mandovi bridge: 100% ‘Make in India’ project to be inaugurated soon. Though it was purely a brainchild of our Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, the third Mandovi bridge wouldn’t have been complete without the finishing touch of Central government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The third Mandovi bridge built at a cost of Rs 483 cr is all set to be inaugurated this month (date yet to be decided).
The bridge, initially opposed by many, will bring big relief for Goa-Mumbai as well as local commuters.

According to the Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, who heads the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, the third cable-stayed bridge over river Mandovi is being developed under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ambitious Make in India initiative.
The total length of the third cable-stayed Mandovi bridge is 4.2 km and the bridge is 21 m wide.
Also, the project is being developed into a four-lane bridge. The third cable-stayed Mandovi bridge is being constructed by Larsen and Toubro (L&T).
According to reports, earlier this year, Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar announced that the third Mandovi bridge would be completed by Jan and that PM Narendra Modi would inaugurate the bridge soon.
The reports quoted Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (GSIDC) Vice-Chairman Sidharth Kuncalienkar saying that PM Narendra Modi is likely to inaugurate the third Mandovi bridge.
The project, which has missed some deadlines, is worth appropriately Rs 483 crore.
Reports suggest that the bridge will have around 40 cables anchoring the segments to the four pylons in the river bed. There are also plans to beautify the area below the bridge spans. Reports suggest that gardens and parking space are being considered as well.
Speaking to GOAN TIMES, GSIDC vice chairman showed confidence that the bridge would be completed by Jan 12.
“Around 1500 workers are on the job and we are confident work will be completed by January 12,” he said.
Sidharth Kuncalienkar also said that they will hand over the bridge to government which will then decide date of inauguration.
“This bridge will be a boost to Goa. When opponents are busy criticising the government we are completing one project after another which people really need,” he said.
Kuncalienkar said initially only bridge from porvorim towards Margao and Panjim to Porvorim will be inaugurated.
“The Panjim KTC circle flyover and Ponda flyover will be completed in due course of time,” he said.
